
The MXD Toolkit provides MXD and layer symbology management for ESRI ArcGIS Engine Developers. ArcGIS Engine contains coarse and fine grained objects necessary to manage MXDs and layer symbology. However, there are no layer properties stock dialogs built into ArcGIS Engine. Developers wanting to expose MXD and layer properties management to their engine applications must design, debug, test, document, and maintain this functionality on their own.
In many cases, the time spent developing this broad horizontal functionality would be better spent developing you engine applications vertical market value add.
MXD Toolkit is provided for free by GeoComm
for you to download and use with no restrictions. You must supply proper
ESRI ArcGIS Engine licensing. MXD Toolkit requires MS .NET Framework
2.0. The free version is a compiled ArcGIS Engine application that
shows GeoComm splash screens.
Source code for the MXD Toolkit is available
for Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 / VB.NET for $1200 (USD). The source
code purchase enables you to remove the GeoComm splash screens, and to
embed the layer properties dialogs into your own application code, as
well as to extend and modify the toolkit, such as to add support for
your own custom data types, and to localize in different languages.
