Public safety agencies operating in a wideband (25 kHz) system in the VHF or UHF land mobile band are affected by the mandatory narrowbanding requirements of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). These requirements apply to agencies applying for licenses and those with current licenses.

Fulfilling this requirement is a major undertaking. The narrowbanding deadline is January 1, 2013. Work has begun nationwide to meet this deadline. It is important to begin this process now.

GeoComm’s consulting team’s radio system expertise and deep understanding of evolving technology and federal requirements is built on time in the radio industry. Our consultants understand the narrowbanding requirements and process. This knowledge provides a partner who will objectively look at your system and guide your narrowbanding process.

GeoComm provides support to:
• Plan for your agency’s narrowbanding conversion and procurement

• Determine your agency’s affected equipment

• Coordinate a phased transition with the least amount of disruption to your agency’s system operations

• Evaluate existing systems

• Analyze the feasibility of all options before investing funds

• Complete a technical analysis to ensure adequate public safety communications during transition and after compliance

• Coordinate narrowbanding efforts at every level of government: local, regional, and state

• Assist with the budgetary process

"GeoComm’s Public Safety Consulting Team was instrumental in helping me understand the nuances of Phase II wireless. Throughout our phone upgrade they filled in the gaps I was missing as to how Phase II wireless works and how we can take advantage of the information in our call center. Their project team was open, accommodating, and willing to teach us as well as provided us with relevant APCO standards so we knew as much as we could about requirements related to our systems."
